22 Extraordinary Bridges Around the World – You Won’t Believe This One

6. Iya Kazurabashi Bridge, Japan

Stretching across the scenic Iya Valley in Tokushima, Japan, the Iya Kazurabashi Bridge is a remarkable example of traditional engineering. Made mainly from mountain vines, this suspension bridge has a history of over 800 years, originally built to help locals cross the deep valley. Though walking on vines may seem risky, the bridge is regularly maintained for safety, with new steel cables added every three years. Spanning 45 meters (148 feet) and hanging 14 meters (46 feet) above the river, the bridge’s wide gaps and swaying motion make for an exciting crossing.

The Iya Kazurabashi Bridge is a popular tourist spot, offering a glimpse into Japan’s rural heritage and stunning mountain scenery.
